I'm in my old room at my dad's house, and I've spent the night listening to the records I forgot I owned and going through all the things I never bothered to throw away. I found some conversations I saved on my old computer from a few years ago. I've changed so much. I hardly recognize the way I used to speak, or the things I used to say. ..How I treated people. I can't believe some of the things I've let go of. It occurs to me that if you explained the past year or so to me a few years ago, sat me down and told me how things were going to be, I wouldn't believe you.
I'm so much happier than I use to be. I'm less independant in a lot of ways, but I've grown up. Immensely.

I've also realized that there is still a lot I've yet to let go of. Stubborn, naive. I think I'm ready to.

i just had my final critique for visual language. here's a sample of some of the pieces:
- an oil painting of mick jagger as a lego-man, shooting up heroin
- a giant wooden mouth filled with hair gel
- a tent with abraham lincoln's face screenprinted on it
- a wire chicken
- a poster for the movie version of "clue"
- and my self-portrait made entirely out of paint samples from home depot.
..okaaay?

i was up until four last night drawing. i didn't finish. aparently no one else in the class did, so i'm not stressing it.

my visual language class, thoughts on "invisible cities" by italo calvino:

Professor: "So what do you think the cities represented?"
Student: "Well, a lot of them were about like, longing and how people used to be happy. it's all emo."
Professor: "Eno? Like Brian Eno?"
Me: "Oh man. I have to write that down."

yeah i'm kind of excited to transfer.
busiest week of my life coming up.

the future freaks me out

music: when the war came
so lately i've been thinking a lot about my future, and what i should be doing with myself right now. i'm stuck, really really stuck. i don't think i should be at art school, because sure it's fun and interesting, but realisitically i'm not going to be an artist. i'm here for art history? that doesn't make sense. i should be somewhere else doing writing. i think i might transfer and study literature, writing and maybe minor in art history. brandeis, emerson, somewhere out of boston. i just know it would be stupid to spend any more time at massart, as much as i'm enjoying it.

x the crescendo: write an article on shi tzus and have it published in ploughshares.
best advice of the night. thanks sam!

Drawing II: Drawing & Painting
Drawing with paint and mixed media on a variety of surfaces including stretched canvas, wood, handmade paper, celluloid and glass. Students investigate the physical qualities of paint in conjunction with other materials, objects and media.

Interconnection: Figurative & Abstract
This course aims to address formal issues through the use of alternative process and materials. We will take form the natural world as well as from the manufactured world. Examples: soil, branches, snow, caulking, nails, screening.

Renaissance Splendor: Venice + Mantua
An on-site, comprehensive examination of the painting, sculpture and architecture produced during the Golden Age of Venice, the Veneto and southern Lombardy, 1200-1800. There will be a classroom component at MassArt, in which students will discuss relevant art historical texts and learn conversational Italian. Beginning with a week-long stay in the great city itself, we will study the evolution of Venetian culture from its origins as an outpost of the Byzantine Empire to its rise as the greatest and most enduring republic the world has ever known, as well as one of the richest and most magnetic artistic centers in Europe. After seven days in Venice, we will leave for Mantua. In Mantua we will study the architecture of Alberti, the frescoes by Mantegna in the Ducal Palace, and finally, the tour-de- force of Renaissance pleasure construction, Giulio Romano's Palazzo Te.
